KROME PLATED YABBY SHOW Every Wednesday evening between 6:00 & 8:00pm the “Krome Plated Yabby Show” presents the best in Australian rock music. With its roots firmly in the 60’s and 70’s the show also showcases new Australian music, especially from some of the veterans of the music scene. The show takes its name from a song written by Lobby Loyde and released by his band The Wild Cherries in 1967. This fantastic slice of psychedelic R&B is a great example of Australian rock of the 60’s. The title of the show not only reflects this great era in Australian music but also pays homage to the enormous contribution Lobby Loyde made to Australian music coming into its own in the 70’s. Each week the show plays great Australian rock music from the past and present, often drawing on the fantastic re-releases of albums on Gil Matthew’s Aztec Music label and new material released through the Acoustic Series on the Liberation Blue label. Musical guests are often featured talking about their music and playing live in the 3NRG studios - recent guests on the show have included Ken Murdoch from Taste who discussed and showcased the brand new Taste album “Rock is Dead”, Mike Rudd from Spectrum who discussed his amazing 40 year musical career from New Zealand’s seminal garage band Chants R&B through to the present incarnation of Spectrum with their great new CD “Breathing Space”, and Mick Pealing from 70’s band Stars who discussed his past successes with Stars, The Ideals, The Spaniards, and many more and highlighted his recent CD “Grand Hotel” and the recently released “Andy Durant Memorial Concert” featuring a bonus DVD of Stars live at Bombay Rock in 1978. So if you want to hear the best in Australian music from the past to the present tune in to 99.3FM every Wednesday evening between 6:00 – 8:00pm. The Presenter Andrew Smith has been a regular presenter on 3NRG for the past seven years. Originally presenting the “Nightcap” show with Bryan Dwyer the show slowly morphed into the “Krome Plated Yabby Show” specialising in great Australian music. Gus Gleason played a regular role on the show until moving into his own timeslot on alternate Thursday evenings (6:00 – 8:00pm) with “Gus’s Attic”. Andrew has a passion for great Australian music of the 60’s & 70’s. He grew up listening to 3UZ & 3XY and watching the Go Show, GTK, Kommotion and Happening 70’s featuring great Australian bands like The Easybeats, Masters Apprentices, Zoot and the Valentines. By the time he could get out to see live bands he soaked up everything offered by Chain, Carson, Wild Cherries, Aztecs, La De Das, Lobby Loyde and the Coloured Balls and much, much more. Highlights were Sunbury ’73 & ’74 when Australian music really came of age. Since then he has embraced everything Australian music has to offer. The “Krome Plated Yabby Show” provides Andrew with an opportunity to share his love of great Australian Rock music. On weekends you can see Andrew playing bass around Melbourne venues in the 60’s & 70’s cover band “The Ripchords”. The “Krome Plated Yabby Show” has a strong link with “Wrokdown” which broadcasts on community television’s Channel 31 every Saturday night at 9:00pm. This fantastic show produced by Anita Monk and presented by Wendy Stapleton interviews some of the great artists from the 60’s and 70’s and highlights their current music and gigs.
